Prairie Fire Manifesto

In 1974 the Weather Underground published Prairie Fire: The Politics of Revolutionary Anti-Imperialism, a book-length manifesto distributed clandestinely across the country. Named for Mao Zedong's line that "a single spark can start a prairie fire," it laid out the group's revolutionary program and sought to reconnect the isolated underground with aboveground mass movements.

Prairie Fire marked a strategic shift toward rebuilding a broader political base and inspired the aboveground Prairie Fire Organizing Committee. It reflected a growing recognition within the group that clandestine bombings alone could not build a revolution.
