NEW YORK POLICE HEADQUARTERS BOMBING
On June 9, 1970, the Weather Underground bombed the New York City Police Headquarters, one of its first actions under the new, property-focused strategy adopted after the townhouse disaster. As would become the group's practice, a warning was phoned in beforehand and the building was evacuated; the blast caused damage but no deaths.
The bombing announced that the group had survived the townhouse catastrophe and would continue its campaign against symbols of state power — police, courts, and the military — while trying to avoid casualties.
