GEORGE JACKSON BRIGADE
The George Jackson Brigade was the Pacific Northwest's armed clandestine group of the mid-1970s — a small collective of ex-prisoners, out gay men and lesbians, and prison-movement organizers in Seattle, named for the murdered Soledad Brother. Between 1975 and 1977 it carried out bombings and expropriations tied to concrete prison and labor struggles, lost Bruce Seidel in the Tukwila bank shootout, and produced prisoners — Ed Mead, Rita Brown, John Sherman, Mark Cook — whose later organizing, from Men Against Sexism to prisoner-support work, outlasted the group itself.
