THE MAINLAND BOMBING CAMPAIGN
The Mainland Bombing Campaign

Between 1974 and 1983 the FALN claimed well over a hundred bombings and incendiary attacks, concentrated in New York and Chicago but extending to Washington, D.C., and other cities. Targets included banks, corporate headquarters, government buildings, and military and political offices — chosen as symbols of U.S. colonial and capitalist power.

The scale and persistence of the campaign made the FALN the most prominent Puerto Rican clandestine organization operating on the mainland, and it drew a massive federal response. The group deliberately used property destruction and telephoned warnings in many actions, though several attacks — above all Fraunces Tavern — caused deaths and injuries.
