EVANSTON ARRESTS
Evanston Arrests

In April 1980, eleven FALN members were arrested in Evanston, Illinois, effectively decapitating the organization's mainland network. The arrests followed years of federal investigation into the Chicago-based independence underground.

The captured members refused to recognize the authority of the U.S. court, declaring themselves prisoners of war in an anti-colonial struggle and declining to mount a conventional legal defense. Their stance framed the prosecutions that followed and shaped the long campaign for their release.
