Cook County Building Bombing

In 1977 the FALN carried out a major bombing at the Cook County Building in Chicago, one of the most significant of its actions outside New York. Chicago, with its large Puerto Rican community, was a central base for the organization, and the attack underscored that the FALN's campaign was national in scope.

The Chicago bombings helped focus federal investigators on the city's Puerto Rican independence networks — an investigation that would culminate in the 1980 Evanston arrests that broke much of the FALN's mainland structure.
