KILLING OF NYPD OFFICERS FOSTER & LAURIE
On January 27, 1972, New York City police officers Gregory Foster and Rocco Laurie were shot and killed on the Lower East Side, another killing attributed to Black Liberation Army militants. Coming eight months after the Piagentini and Jones killings, it intensified the massive police manhunt for the underground network.
The case fed a sweeping federal and local campaign against the BLA and its suspected members, producing arrests, shootouts, and prosecutions across several states. It remains one of the defining episodes cited in accounts of the BLA's armed campaign against the police.
