The SLA's second generation — the remnant that regrouped after Los Angeles — surfaced in the courts a quarter century later. Kathleen Soliah, who had lived for decades in St. Paul as Sara Jane Olson, a doctor's wife and community actress, was arrested in June 1999 after an America's Most Wanted broadcast, and in 2002 pleaded guilty to the attempted pipe-bombing of LAPD cars in 1975, drawing a long state term.
Her arrest revived the unsolved killing of Myrna Opsahl, a mother of four shot dead in the SLA's April 1975 robbery of the Crocker National Bank in Carmichael. In 2002 Emily Harris — who admitted her shotgun fired the fatal blast — Bill Harris, Michael Bortin, and Olson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and James Kilgore, arrested in South Africa, followed in 2003. All served terms and were paroled by 2009, closing the SLA's ledger more than thirty years after its two-year rampage.
