PUERTO RICAN INDEPENDENCE
Since the 1950 Jayuya Uprising, Puerto Rican independentistas have faced sustained federal prosecution — from the Nationalist Party prisoners of the 1950s (Lolita Lebrón, Rafael Cancel Miranda, Andrés Figueroa Cordero, Irvin Flores Rodríguez, Oscar Collazo) through the FALN prisoners of the 1980s (Oscar López Rivera, Carlos Alberto Torres, Juan Segarra Palmer). The campaign to free them has been one of the longest-running prisoner-support efforts in U.S. history.
