Biography
Ida Luz Rodríguez is a Puerto Rican nationalist associated with community-focused activism, including involvement in local struggles over jobs, housing, and education. Her public profile is frequently linked to the Puerto Rican independence movement and to political organizing within the Puerto Rican diaspora.
She was arrested on April 4, 1980, in Evanston and convicted of seditious conspiracy and related charges in the same broad set of cases involving FALN members. She received a long federal sentence (commonly cited as 75 years) and continued studying while incarcerated. Rodríguez was released on September 10, 1999, after conditional clemency.
