Luz María Berríos Berríos

Macheteros member arrested in the 1985 federal sweep connected to the Wells Fargo Hartford expropriation. She was held at FCI Lexington, including in the controversial high-security control unit for women. Documented in PFOC Breakthrough magazine. BOP #24582-004.

Luz Berríos Berríos was arrested in the August 30, 1985 Macheteros operation and was a plea defendant in the Wells Fargo prosecution. Remaining obligations were resolved by Clinton's August 1999 commutation.

Luz Maria Berrios-Berrios was charged as part of the federal crackdown on Los Macheteros, a clandestine pro-independence organization accused by U.S. authorities of financing its operations through armed actions. Prosecutors alleged she helped handle and conceal proceeds from the 1983 Wells Fargo depot robbery in Connecticut, including managing money movements and participating in politically framed distributions of cash and toys.

She pleaded guilty to a conspiracy count and received a five-year sentence. Her case illustrates how organizers and logistical supporters were prosecuted alongside alleged operational leaders in the broader Los Macheteros investigation.
