Biography
Edwin Cortes is a Puerto Rican nationalist associated with the FALN-era underground independence movement. He was arrested in 1980 and later convicted of seditious conspiracy and related offenses tied to a broader pattern of clandestine actions and weapons allegations during a period of heightened federal attention to Puerto Rican militant groups.
He received a lengthy prison sentence and remained incarcerated for many years. In 1999, he accepted an executive clemency offer and was released, after which he continued to identify with the independence cause that had framed his earlier political commitments.
