From the 1886 Haymarket prosecutions through the 1917 IWW mass trial in Chicago and the Sacco-Vanzetti and Tom Mooney frame-ups, U.S. labor organizers have been imprisoned under sedition, syndicalism, and conspiracy statutes specifically designed to neutralize their organizations. The legal architecture built to crush the IWW remains in force.
