The post-2000 prosecutions of Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Animal Liberation Front (ALF) defendants — known collectively as the 'Green Scare' — produced some of the longest sentences ever imposed for property-destruction offenses with no human casualties. The 2006 Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) federalized ALF/ELF cases as terrorism. Marius Mason, Daniel McGowan, Jessica Reznicek, and others were sentenced under this framework.
