OCCUPY WALL STREET (2011–2012)
The occupation of Zuccotti Park in September 2011 spread to hundreds of cities and produced roughly 8,000 arrests within a year. The NATO 3 were tried in Chicago under Illinois's never-before-used state terrorism statute — acquitted of terrorism but convicted of lesser charges; Cecily McMillan was imprisoned over an alleged assault on the officer who had grabbed her; and Pacific Northwest grand-jury resisters Leah-Lynn Plante, Matt Duran, and Katherine 'KteeO' Olejnik were jailed for refusing to testify about fellow activists.
