Police mass-arrested some 230 people during protests at Donald Trump's first inauguration and charged them collectively with felony rioting that carried decades in prison. The prosecution collapsed in 2018 after the first juries acquitted every defendant and a judge sanctioned prosecutors for withholding evidence — but the case helped establish the sweeping conspiracy-charging template later used against Stop Cop City and George Floyd defendants.
