Rasmea Odeh — associate director of Chicago's Arab American Action Network, organizer of hundreds of immigrant women — was prosecuted in 2013 for failing to disclose, on her decade-old naturalization forms, a 1969 Israeli military-court conviction obtained, she testified, through weeks of torture and sexual assault in Israeli custody. The unnaturalization case, brought after a federal investigation of Midwest Palestine activists produced nothing else, was understood by the movement as retribution for a life of organizing.

Convicted in 2014 in a trial where her torture evidence was excluded, she won a rare appellate reversal on that ground; facing retrial under new terrorism allegations, she accepted denaturalization and was deported to Jordan in 2017. Her farewell rally in Chicago, thousands strong, marked the case as the bridge between the LA 8 era and the campus repression to come.
