On September 9, 1980, eight Catholic radicals led by Daniel and Philip Berrigan walked into the General Electric plant at King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, hammered on Mark 12A warhead nose cones, and poured their blood on the weapons — enacting Isaiah's command to beat swords into plowshares. The Plowshares Eight received prison terms after a trial (dramatized with the defendants themselves in In the King of Prussia) that launched a tradition: over a hundred such actions worldwide since.

American Plowshares prisoners span four decades — from Helen Woodson's seventeen-plus years, the tradition's longest, through the Transform Now trio whose 82-year-old Sister Megan Rice reached the heart of the Y-12 uranium complex in 2012, to the Kings Bay Plowshares 7 of 2018.
