Biography

Dr. Albert E. Perry was vice-president of the Union County NAACP in Monroe, North Carolina, and a close ally of Robert F. Williams. Shortly after he helped lead a campaign to desegregate Monroe's municipal swimming pool, he was charged and convicted of performing an abortion — a prosecution the NAACP denounced as a frame-up in retaliation for his civil-rights work.
