Biography

William P. Mitchell was an official of the Alabama State Coordinating Association for Registration and Voting, named with W. C. Patton in a 1958 Alabama contempt case after the state attorney general accused them of secretly serving the banned NAACP. The prosecution was part of Alabama's effort to choke off Black voter-registration organizing.
