Biography

The Rev. Theodore R. Gibson was president of the Miami branch of the NAACP, cited for contempt by the Florida Legislative Investigating Committee (the segregationist 'Johns Committee') in December 1959 for refusing to bring the branch's membership lists to its hearings. His resistance led to the landmark Gibson v. Florida Legislative Investigation Committee.
