Biography
William Cleveland Nesbit Sergeant of the 24th Infantry Regiment. Sgt. William C. Nesbit was a senior NCO of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 24th Infantry, born in Blair County, Pennsylvania. As one of the highest-ranking Black NCOs in the unit, identified by prosecutors as a leader of the August 23, 1917 march on Houston. Tried in the first "Nesbit" court-martial; hanged at sunrise December 11, 1917. Conviction set aside November 2023. Conviction formally set aside by U.S. Army November 2023 (posthumous).
