Biography
A Roman Catholic nun and member of the Sisters of Loretto (a schoolteacher, formerly teaching in Montgomery, Alabama and St. Louis), Malone joined the DC Nine raid on Dow Chemical on March 22, 1969. She is noted as the first nun in U.S. history to commit five federal felonies and be convicted, facing a potential 35 years; the reaction at her Catholic school in St. Louis caused it to close for a week. She went on to a lifelong career as a labor organizer and public high-school social studies teacher in the DC/Maryland area; convictions were reversed on appeal in 1972.
