Biography
A former Maryknoll priest who, with his brother Thomas Melville, had been a missionary among the Maya in Guatemala until the Guatemalan government expelled them in December 1967 for their radical social-justice activism. Arthur left the priesthood and married former nun Catherine Melville; both were among the nine who raided the Dow Chemical offices on March 22, 1969. He was charged with malicious destruction of property and unlawful entry; convictions were reversed on appeal in 1972. (His brother Thomas and sister-in-law Marjorie Bradford Melville were members of the earlier Catonsville Nine.)
