Biography

Simon Silverman (also known as Sid Taylor) was a Connecticut Communist Party organizer and the lead defendant in the New Haven Smith Act case. Indicted and tried in 1954 during the McCarthy era for conspiring to advocate the overthrow of the U.S. government, his conviction was reversed by the Second Circuit in United States v. Silverman (248 F.2d 671, 1957).
