Biography

Jacob Goldring was a Connecticut Communist and member of the party's state committee through the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was one of the New Haven Smith Act defendants indicted and tried in 1954 during the McCarthy era for conspiring to advocate the overthrow of the U.S. government; the convictions were reversed by the Second Circuit in United States v. Silverman (1957).
