Biography

Pat MacWharter Private of the 24th Infantry Regiment. Pvt. Pat MacWharter of the 24th Infantry was the thirteenth soldier hanged on the morning of December 11, 1917 at Salado Creek outside Fort Sam Houston. The executions were carried out so quickly and secretly that newspapers learned of them only after they were complete. Conviction formally set aside by U.S. Army November 2023 (posthumous).
