Biography

Jacob R. Shipherd (indicted under the misstated name "James R. Shepard") was one of the twenty men committed to the Cuyahoga County Jail for the 1858 Oberlin–Wellington Rescue of the freedom-seeker John Price. His indictment was dismissed on April 25, 1859 because the grand jury had seriously misstated his name.
