Biography
George W. Sams Jr. was a national Black Panther Party "field marshal" who supervised the interrogation of Alex Rackley at the New Haven Panther headquarters in May 1969 and gave the order for Rackley to be shot. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and became the state's key witness, testifying that national chairman Bobby Seale had ordered the killing — uncorroborated testimony that was the crux of the case against Seale. Captured in Toronto in August 1969, he was sentenced to life and paroled in 1974 after serving about four to five years.
