Biography

William Schneiderman was the secretary of the California Communist Party and, after the 1951 arrests, its acting national head. Seized in New York on $100,000 bail and taken to California in handcuffs, he was a lead Smith Act defendant; he had earlier been the subject of the Supreme Court's 1943 Schneiderman v. United States denaturalization case.
