Biography

Loretta Starvus Stack was among the California Communist Party leaders indicted under the Smith Act in 1951 and a defendant in the case that became Yates v. United States.

California State Organizing Secretary CPUSA; trained in Moscow; married longshoreman Walter Stack. Yates defendant; conviction reversed. The Stack v. Boyle (1951) bail-reduction Supreme Court case bears her name.
