Richard Hunsinger
Biography
Richard Hunsinger is an Atlanta-area protester who was arrested and federally charged in connection with a 2020 demonstration at the Department of Homeland Security office in Atlanta during the George Floyd uprising. He served years in federal prison and was released in late November 2024. His support committee organized a post-release fundraiser; Uprising Support documents his case on the post-release page.
On July 25, 2020 around 11:30 p.m. several protesters including Richard Tyler Hunsinger, 28, wearing dark clothing and covering their faces vandalized the DHS Building in Atlanta, GA. They used rocks, cinder blocks, modified fireworks, Molotov cocktails, and hammers to cause extensive damage. At least one Federal Protective Service Inspector was inside performing official duties; protesters shined lasers at his eyes. Hunsinger was tracked down after agents found blood at the scene and contacted nearby hospitals. Sentenced to 32 months federal prison.
