Biography

Philip 'Slim' Connelly was a California labor journalist and former head of the Los Angeles CIO Council, and editor of the Daily People's World. He was among the California Smith Act defendants arrested in 1951 and held on heavy bail.

Philip M. Connelly was a California Communist journalist and former state CIO leader, one of the fourteen California Communists convicted in the 1952 Los Angeles Smith Act trial. His conviction was on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, which in 1957 reversed the California convictions in Yates v. United States.
