Biography
Montez Lee is a Black man from Rochester, Minnesota, who became known as one of the political prisoners associated with the legal aftermath of the 2020 George Floyd uprising. Lee was arrested and charged by federal prosecutors for arson, including the burning of a building connected with the protests. In January 2022, he pled guilty to one count of arson and was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison. Supporters and advocacy groups have maintained that Lee was held without bail for many months and describe his incarceration as part of broader criminalization of dissent during the uprising.
