Biography

Manuel Fernandez Rodriguez was one of five Spanish sailors who deserted Franco's navy and sought asylum in the United States in July 1957, then were held by U.S. immigration authorities and ordered returned to Spain. The ACLU's A. L. Wirin charged the men had been 'shanghaied.'
