Biography
A Jesuit seminarian (Society of Jesus) at the time, age 25, Mulligan was one of the fifteen who on May 25, 1969 broke into the Selective Service office at 2355 W. 63rd Street in Chicago, removed roughly 40,000 draft records and burned them in an alley, waiting to be arrested. He was among those convicted (10 of 11 tried were convicted in June 1970) and served prison time (group terms ran up to two years). Ordained a Jesuit priest in 1973, he spent decades as a liberation-theology missionary with Christian base communities in Nicaragua and wrote on the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador.
