Biography

Guido Serio was an Italian anti-fascist labor leader — a former national secretary of the Seamen's Union of Italy — and Communist Party organizer who bore seven stiletto wounds from Fascist attackers. Arrested at an Italian-language meeting in Erie, Pennsylvania in May 1930 and charged with sedition for protesting unemployment, he was held under $25,000 bail and ordered deported; refused a new trial, he was held on Ellis Island awaiting deportation to Mussolini's Italy.
