Biography

Carlos Matchett is an Atlantic City, New Jersey man who set fire to an overturned Philadelphia police car on May 30, 2020, during George Floyd uprising protests, spraying the vehicle with lighter fluid before igniting it. He was also charged in connection with separate acts of theft and vandalism during a riot in Atlantic City the following day. Officers arrested him at the Atlantic City protest in possession of a folding knife, hatchet, and jar of gasoline. He pleaded guilty in late 2022 and was sentenced in February 2023 to 46 months in federal prison.
