Biography
William Denton was a Jehovah's Witnesses conscientious objector from Michigan imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. Sentenced to 3 years in prison. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: registered for draft on June 5, 1917, as a C.O.; not interviewed by Bd.; charged with desertion (“still in civil court $1,000 for evading draft”); sentenced to 3 years in prison; reason for stance = religious
