Biography
Samuel Kleinsasser was a Hutterite conscientious objector from South Dakota imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. Sentenced to 5. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 as a C.O.; sent to Camp Funston; refused to work under military direction; refused to wear uniform; appeared before Bd. of Inquiry, which deemed him sincere & granted a farm furlough (but did not get it); interviewed by Special Bd. …
