Biography

Ramon Mirabal was the secretary-general of the Communist Party of Puerto Rico, arrested in October 1954 in the island's first Smith Act prosecution. He was one of eleven defendants awaiting trial in San Juan and, speaking no English, faced the prospect of a trial he could not follow.
