Biography

Peter Heppner was a Mennonite conscientious objector from California imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. 22 years of age on May 4, 1918. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: camp psychologist, Moore, listed him as a “malingerer”; court-martialed & sentenced to prison; imprisoned at Ft. Leavenworth on June 24, 1918 (or as late as July 15th); had a grade 7 education; 22 years of age on May 4, 1918; courts-martial #116494
