Biography
Momodou Taal is a graduate student with dual United Kingdom and Gambian citizenship who was enrolled at Cornell University. In March 2025, as U.S. immigration authorities began enforcing new deportation and visa-revocation policies against international students, Taal was told to surrender to ICE in Syracuse, New York as part of this effort.
His lawyers filed a lawsuit seeking to strike down the executive orders that targeted students and scholars for alleged protest involvement, arguing that the government’s actions violated constitutional and immigration law protections. Taal’s case became part of broader litigation challenging the legality of these deportation policies.
