Biography
Leo Laukki, a university professor and editor of the IWW's Finnish language newspaper from Smithville, Minnesota, was convicted at the mass IWW trial in Chicago, sentenced to twenty years in prison and fined $20,000. He served in Leavenworth Penitentiary from September 7, 1918, to April 30, 1919, when bond was posted. Laukki jumped bail, became a fugitive from the law and fled to Russia.
