John Yancey

John Yancey was a Black prisoner at the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord who, The Black Panther reported in March 1974, faced more than the usual amount of harassment both in and out of prison because he is proud, intelligent and Black. When eight guards led by Captain LaValle came to his cell an hour after nightlock and ordered him to back up to the bars to be handcuffed, he refused; after the guards assaulted him, he was the one charged with assaulting two of them — charges that could add ten to twenty years to his sentence plus twelve months in segregation.
