Biography

John Noto was a Buffalo Communist Party leader arrested on August 31, 1955 under a 1954 sealed indictment charging membership in the Communist Party under the Smith Act. He was jailed on bail set at $30,000 cash; his case, Noto v. United States, later reached the Supreme Court.
