John L. Murphy

Biography

John L. Murphy, a Socialist, a pacifist and an IWW member from Boston, Massachusetts, was convicted at the mass IWW trial in Sacramento and sentenced to five years in prison. He served in Leavenworth Penitentiary from January 17, 1919, to December 25, 1921, when he agreed to be "a law-abiding citizen" and had his sentence commuted.
