John Avila, from Lowell, Massachusetts, was convicted at the mass IWW trial in Chicago, sentenced to five years in prison and fined $20,000. He served in Leavenworth Penitentiary from September 30, 1917, to May 14, 1922, when his sentence expired. Avila had a wife and three children.
