Biography

John Austin Babbs was a Jehovah's Witnesses conscientious objector from Arkansas imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: sent to Camp Pike; imprisoned at Ft. Leavenworth on Dec. 10, 1918 (or as late as Dec. 24th); member of International Bible Students Association
