Biography

Jack Hall was the regional director of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) in Hawaii, where the union had transformed the islands' plantation economy. His arrest in August 1951 was the first Smith Act arrest of a ranking union leader; convicted in 1953, he won reversal after the Yates decision.
